You try, try, and try again but none of your attempts to build a successful startup seem to work. So what are you doing wrong? The first thing you SHOULD NOT do is doubt your skills as a young entrepreneur. You’ve taken a risk to create a useful product or service that will reward you financially long before you reach retirement age at 65. Most people spend their entire lives avoiding healthy risk because of seven fears, but fear of failure being the main one, so they never see success or wealth at an early age. Also if you are like most young entrepreneurs, you tend to get a lot of negative feedback from people who don’t understand what you’re doing. Usually your main critics tend to be family members who often say “you need to find a job” or “you need to stay in college and get a degree.”… Read Full Post

Lazy people, they’re everywhere in every country. Students who slack off, they’re everywhere in most schools. Noticed I didn’t say they’re everywhere in every school. Schools such as military and boarding schools might let you in lazy, but you come out disciplined or driven. So whats the deal with slacker students who go to school day in and day out and don’t give an ounce of thought to advancing from point A to C on the success ladder of life. Maybe dropping out or leaving them back is the answer. In my opinion, that’s never the answer. I believe everyone has some sort of useful potential. Sometimes it’s hidden so deep, they need someone to light a fire under them to spark their drive and motivation. By the way don’t take the word fire literally, it’s a figure of speech.
What makes some high school students more driven to succeed… Read Full Post

Not too many college students hide the fact they’re broke. It’s like a right of passage to proclaim their lack of funds, but not every college guy or gal want to remain a member of this less than prestigious club. When the paltry stipend from mom and dad is not enough, many students turn to other popular but risky ways to make money. These are the top three ways financially needy and risk taking students dive in head first to get paid.
Daytrading the Stock Market in College
While investing in the stock market with reputable and proven growth stocks is a great way to start your financial portfolio, impatient students don’t have 10 years to wait for a return on their investment. Opening a stock market account is pretty easy and requires your attention to breaking market news and updates. Even with a busy course load,… Read Full Post

If you have big dreams, you’ve probably heard the overused cliche, “build it and they will come”. This inspire you to take a leap of faith and spin your first business idea into a startup reality. Next you tell a few friends, send out email blasts, and tell them to tell a few friends about your big business and website launch. How do you teach students to become entrepreneurs, honestly you can’t, there’s no real classroom entrepreneur 101. But you can show them ways to tap into their raw hustling or natural marketing smarts to build something valuable. Here’s an idea, if you are enrolled in a high school for example that teaches marketing, and you need to raise funds for a trip or awards simply start a store.
That’s right, no business registration or incorporation certificates necessary. Start a classroom or school store, buy school supplies in cheap bulk and have students buy and sell them to other students in the high school at a small markup on the original prices. This is a clever way to raise money for any future trips or activities that require a payment. You can also expand on the school store idea and have occasional bake sales and car washes. Students tend to… Read Full Post

If writing on your own website is your hobby and passion, that’s all good, but if you live in Philly (Philadelphia), you might have to fork over $300 to the local government to keep your online hustle going. Let me make that clearer. If you have a blog or website with ads on it, and even if you only made fifty cents for the year, Philly might charge you a $300 Philadelphia business license to keep making that chump change.
High School and college students are no exception either, Philly and many states operate under strange business laws that say if you live there, and run any business from home that’s commercial in any way, you gotta pay up. In this case, even though your personal blogs and websites are not registered businesses but are managed from computers out of your home, you must still pay up to $300… Read Full Post

Internships are great to have under your belt especially as a college student desperate for some work experience, but sometimes you get ahead of yourself and accept the first one that comes your way.
