Benefits of Academy Hairdressing Training Compared to a Hairdressing ApprenticeshipBecoming a professional hairdresser is much simpler than you might think. A career as a hairdresser can expose you to many influential people. Depending on where you plan on settling once you get certified, you could stay in your regular local or work in a more upscale area where you'll be exposed to very influential and better paying clients . Initially, you can do a hairstylist apprenticeship with a more experienced hairdresser or you could do a trainee job at a local salon. Both methods are much lengthier and can take up to three years before you get certified as a hairdresser, much too  long a wait if you're very eager to start your hairdressing career.

Professional hairdressing academies will teach you many different techniques for hairstyling. These techniques will prepare you to style any hair type and you'll learn valuable information in time management that will maximize styling output effectively in a salon. Common area covered during training include health and sanitation requirements, salon duties such as scheduling, taking appointments, and doing paperwork.

As opposed to learning from someone who is a casual hairdresser with no formal certification, a certification from a hairdressing academy give you the option to set a higher and more reasonable fee since you get a better variety of more selective clientele. You also gain a quicker level of credibility and client confidence with the training you receive. you will have the benefit of learning under numerous teachers. You will be able to learn different techniques and styles from each of them. Under an apprenticeship, you will be limited as to how many people you learn under an also their techniques may be out of date.

At an academy, you train and learn at your own pace which is a greater benefit as compared to an apprenticeship, and it takes a much shorter time period to get certified and start stying hair as compared to an apprenticeship.

The academy hairdressing model is a more efficient way to initiate your hairdressing career. The benefits include multiple instructors, faster certification, and you learn the most up to date techniques for hairstylists.

I can do most or more really nice hairstyles that professional hairdressers do in expensive salons, but it's so hard to get work if you don't already have your own salon or have the certification.

I'm a successful hairdresser running my own salon in an upscale neighborhood and I never had a day of hairdressing training in school. I learned everything from my mother. She had tons of loyal customers and they all now come to me, since she retired. Hair styling school's great but its not always the best route. Nut I wouldn't discourage anyone from doing it. Some people are just more certain of themselves if they have some kind of certification.

Great article. I'm 19 and thinking about going to a hairdressing school. How much would it cost to train at an academy though?
