Adam Lambert's Album Sells Well After Racy AMA Performance

Adam Lambert has something nice to smile about even after all the controversy surrounding his AMA performance. His album sales seem to be going well, and this is due in part to the enormous buzz resulting from his racy performance at the 2009 American Music Awards.
"For Your Entertainment," Lambert's first album after being on "American Idol," where he came in second to winner Kris Allen, is the fifth most downloaded album on iTunes behind Lady Gaga, Susan Boyle, the "New Moon" soundtrack and John Mayer. Go figure, by incorporating a technique from the playbook of great stage performers like Madonna, and Prince, Lambert broke into pop music culture's most unbelievable moments to remember.
Lambert's 14-song album is also in the top 10 of Amazon.com music purchases as the ninth most purchased album.
He shocked audiences during his live performance at the 2009 AMA's with a performance that included simulated oral sex with a dancer and a kiss with his male keyboardist who is reportedly straight. Lambert said it all happened in the spur of the moment, but does not regret his performance. In fact he thinks the network showed bias since Madonna had not gotten the same bad treatment after her onstage kiss with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
Lambert previously said in a statement to Access Hollywood, "You know honestly, if I offended some people... it's apples and oranges. I'm not an artist that does things for every single person,".
"If it's edited, that's discrimination," Lambert said. "I will be a little disappointed because there is a little bit of discrimination going in this country. There's a big double standard, female pop artists have been doing things provocative like that for years, and the fact that I'm a male, and I'll be edited and discriminated against could be a problem."
The pop singer admitted that he wouldn't be surprised by an edited down performance of his show.
"I'm not going to be surprised that they edit it," he continued. "People are scared and it's really sad, I just wish people could open their minds up and enjoy things, it's all for a laugh, it's really not that big of a deal."
Lambert also explained that he wanted to bring a little shock value to his show, like many great performers before him.
"Shock is fun, shock rock is like something that existed, for example, like in the 70's, Alice Cooper...David Bowie, you had artists that liked to push the envelope and that's what made them so fresh," he explained. "Prince for example, wore assless chaps one year...I think that surprise is part of entertainment. I think that it keeps people watching its fun, it makes you laugh and it should be that way. And if it made you uncomfortable, maybe I'm not for you."
Following his racy performance, Lambert's appearance on ABC's "Good Morning America" was cancelled, but was immediately booked on CBS's "Early Show".
