Wow we knew the horror sensation Paranormal Activity was a monster at the box office in terms of return on initial investment but now its just cemented its status as the most profitable movie of all time with a whopping $65.1 million so far.
Considering this movie was created by an independent film maker on a low budget of $15000, this is an amazing feat. The initial decision to do a limited release in a handful of movie theaters was met by criticism by many in the industry, but that decision is now applauded as the word of mouth and internet viral marketing put into the film has created a box office sensation that has not been seen since the Blair Witch Project 10 years ago.
In fact the horror film 'The Blair Witch Project' has held the title of most profitable movie ever for that same amount of time. The success of this horror film has returned an amazing 414,233 percent profit on its initial investment, and released initially from 12 theaters to 1945 screens nationally. That still is a limited release as compared to bigger budget films that are generally released in 2000 to 3000 or more theaters.
