A 29-year-old man was arrested after he attacked and punched singer Leona Lewis at a London bookstore in Piccadilly Circus at 10:36 a.m. ET, according to a Scotland Yard report. Lewis had been signing copies of her autobiography for about 90 minutes when the unprovoked attack occured. She was "understandably shaken" according to statement from a record label spokeswoman.
"The police were called immediately to Waterstones bookstore, and medical attention has been sought," spokewoman Sarah Weinstein Dennison said. "Leona is understandably shaken and apologizes to the fans she was unable to meet and complete signings."
We have no word as yet as to the extent of her physical injuries if there were any.
The Scotland Yard police report said the man was arrested on "suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm." ...and "He is currently in custody at a central London police station".
Leona Lewis, 24, was the 2006 winner of the British televison singing talent show "The X Factor".
Her record label is due to release her second album "Echo," in November, according to Lewis' official Web site. Lets keep our fingers crossed that she's ok.
