Was 2009 the Year for Big Events, Scandals, and Dead Celebrities?
Submitted by da411girl
It seems like so many big events, scandals, and dead celebrities happened in the year 2009 that its almost impossible to fit them all in, not because there were so many, but mostly because of the share magnitude of the events that happened.
Let's see, the year started out with a historical big bang as the United States inaugurated its first African American President, in the form of eloquent and charismatic speaker Barack Obama.
In the arena of beautiful women and pageants, we saw the rise and disgrace of former Miss California Carrie Prejean. I think this is the first year where if you ask anyone which state's beauty pageant queen won the national pageant they would probably say HUH? I don't know. That's because Carrie Prejean's controversial answer to the question of gay marriage and revelations of her adult oriented activities caught on film took center stage. Poor Miss USA, no one even remembers the poor girl's name.
There was the issue of the Octomom and her 14 children, but that tabloid nightmare was nothing compared to the rise and fall of Jon and Kate Plus 8 aka Jon Gosselin and Kate Gosselin. They went from an interesting couple on television with 8 children, to the tabloid favorites of poor and destructive parenting in the name of quick fame and money, not to mention alleged affairs from both husband and wife.
The big event that had the whole world in shock and tears, was of course the passing of "The King of Pop" Michael Jackson. This event officially brought the highest day of traffic on the entire world wide web, and crashed it in many places due to overload of Michael Jackson internet page views. The televised tribute and funeral ceremony also saw record breaking numbers and mourners.
The drum roll event no one saw coming was the Tiger Woods sex scandal. This event snowballed from an accident that had everyone hoping the adored and famous golfer was OK, into a media frenzy that vilified the pro golfer and married father of two, for allegedly sleeping with numerous mistresses before and during his marriage. The event brought enormous shame and disgrace to Woods, and cost him the respect of fans, numerous endorsement deals, and damaged his clean reputation.
Of course there were other deaths of famous actors and actresses but none compared to those events previously listed
