Dubai Opens World's Tallest BuildingDubai Opens World's Tallest Building

On Monday, January 5th, the country of Dubai, located in the Middle East,  opened the tallest structure ever built to the public..

The Burj Khalifa skyscraper, towering at more than 160 stories, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, Dubai's ruler, is set to head events all week to celebrate this architectural feet.

The structure has been in construction for six years and cost the city billions of dollars. Just recently the city announced it was in trouble financially. Some think the structure was a bad idea because of how much money it would take to operate it. Last month Dubai was bailed out with $10 billion by Abu Dhabi, only reducing Dubai debt slightly from $26 billion.

Well known as a city of excess, the structure symbolizes Dubai's richness and over the top grandeur.

Holy crap, twice the height of the Empire state building? That's just crazy. who wants to be that high up in the sky. And all you'll see for miles away is desert and sand. very impressive but unnecessary in my opinion.
