NBA Star Gilbert Arenas had guns in his lockerBasketballs - checked, gatorade - check, guns in stadium locker - check, but whoa! What were firearms, doing in Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas' locker? That's what the NBA is investigating.

The Wizards issued a statement on Thursday saying there was no ammunition in the locked container,.

Arenas said he was prompted by the birth of his daughter Hamiley Penny, to take his guns to the Verizon Center to hand over to team security to give to Washington D.C. police.

Arenas claimed ignorance of the city's rules governing the carrying of firearms saying “I wouldn’t have brought them to D.C. had I known the rules,” ... “After my daughter was born, I was just like, ‘I don’t need these anymore.”

Quintin Peterson of the D.C. police department told The Associated Press on Thursday there was no report of an open investigation regarding Arenas' gun incident.

Arenas had a previous suspension for the Wizard's 2004 season opener as a result of failing to maintain proper registration of a handgun while living in California in 2003.

The team and Gilbert Arenas “are cooperating fully with law enforcement during its review of this matter and will have no further comment at this time,” according to a Wizards’ statement.
