New Orleans Saints Win First Championship Ever at Super Bowl Forty Four
Submitted by ilive4sportz
The New Orleans Saints came marching in as underdogs, and marched out as Super Bowl XLIV champions. This marks the first time ever that the longtime NFL franchise has ever won a Super Bowl. The Saints capitalized on few good turnovers to deliver a thrilling win against the Indianapolis Colts, 31-17.
Can you believe it? The Saints are the NFL champions, and Mardi Gras has started early on Bourbon Street.
The initial momentum of the game was slow, with Indianapolis taking an early lead 10-3. But the Saints stood their ground, took some risks, and made some quick turnovers to beat one of the NFL's best defenses in Payton Manning and the Colts.
Tracy Porter turned heads when he intercepted a bad throw from Peyton Manning to deliver a stunning touchdown, and pretty much put the saints in the lead for the rest of the game.
The Saints jump started the second half with an onside kick initiated with a call from head coach Sean Payton. The fans went wild to let the Saints know that this was their game and they were with them. The game's end was by no means a spectacular super bowl finish, but many were over-joyed to see one of the lowliest teams at the bottom of the NFL rise up to become first time champions in their entire NFL history.
This reporter feels great for the Saints, as they represented a city still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Katrina years after it decimated much of New Orleans. This is a story about a team and city rising from the ashes to rebuild their pride and give their residents more than enough reason to celebrate what will probably be their biggest Mardi Gras in years.
